In 2010 I photographed Laura’s sister’s wedding, so I was honoured when Laura and James asked me to photograph their wedding. I would have loved to photograph their other sister’s wedding as well, but unfortunately I was already booked when they asked me…
Laura and her bridal party started off at her parent’s house where they were getting ready. Meanwhile my assistant started off with the guys, at a pub having a beer! We then came together in Olympic Village for first look and some photos with the bridal party. Olympic Village is a great setting for photos and we really enjoyed our time walking around the area. We were in no rush as we had 2 pregnant bridesmaids and a groomsmen on crutches.
After our time walking through the village, we ended up at the Creekside Community Centre, where the ceremony and reception was happening. I’ve had a few weddings at the Creekside Community Centre and really like it as a venue. The ceremony was outdoors and was very intimate, with guests gathered around the couple, some seated, some standing. Laura’s brother in law provided some live music, which added to the great atmosphere of the ceremony. Afterwards we got some family photos and headed inside for the reception.
The tables were decorated beautifully, with some of great details and personal touches. The guests had a great time socializing, as I walked around catching candid moments. The night featured some heartfelt and hilarious speeches. The food was excellent and the atmosphere in the room was warm and energized.
As the sun set Laura, James and I stepped outside to get a few last portraits. It’s always worthwhile to step out for a few minutes as the sun is going down. The light is so beautiful and the short investment of time almost always yields a handful of beautiful images.
The dessert table was absolutely spectacular, as the owner’s of Trafalgar’s (who are family friends of the couple) went over the top with treats for the guests. Laura’s mom also made a variety of desserts that were incredible in presentation and taste. The evening also featured a pop-up photo booth, which provided some memorable shots throughout the evening.
